What Is a Duplicate Content?

Any content that is the same or similar between multiple pages on your site, or even between your site and websites on other domains. Duplicate content isn’t good for SEO, whether it’s within your site, or with an external site. Having content too similar to that of an external website looks like plagiarism. Within your own site, duplicate content can harm your site’s rankings because Google doesn’t know which page to apply the search rankings to and it can end up divided between them. There are some times that duplicate content is unavoidable, such as if you have multiple versions of the same page for different scenarios (like a mobile version). If this is the case, you can use a canonical tag for the page that is considered the main, or canonical, page so that Google knows which site to use for search rankings.
